Come explore Cambodian culture through a close-up and hands-on study abroad experience! This program is open to students in all majors, sophomore and above! This as an International Service-Learning Program. This program will provide a transcultural experience through pre-immersion classroom instruction in the fall, international service-learning experience over winterim, and a reflective experience in the spring. Fall 2025 Course Description: GS/NRS 270 or NURS 498A will provide a trans-cultural experience through pre-immersion classroom instruction. We will use a variety of sources such as novels, journal articles, news articles, and field trips. 2 credits In the fall, you will study Cambodian culture, religion, history, and health to prepare you for the Cambodian immersion field experience over winterim. This ISL program provides a transcultural experience through pre-immersion classroom instruction and an international immersion field experience. Students will study Cambodian culture, religion, history, and health to better prepare them for the travel experience. Winter 2025-2026 Travel Description: · Students will help provide physical health screenings and health/hygiene education to children and families at various urban and rural communities and schools · Partnerships with Angkor Hospital for Children, the University of Puthisastra, Cambodian School Project, Days for Girls, and the United Nations of Dane County. · Cultural Experiences may include: Theater performance and workshops at the Cambodian Living Arts University, hiking the historic Angkor Wat Temple national park, hiking to and swimming in tropical waterfalls, Cambodian Circus, visit to silk farm and weavers, various shopping markets, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Angkor National Museum, cooking classes, bike rides through the Artisan Village, boat ride through the floating villages, and/or a visit to the ocean beach!!! Spring 2026 Course Description: Students enroll in GS 271 or COR231G (a 2 credit, 8-week, online course) and complete a reflection on their experience. Passports: If you are considering applying for this program, we recommend applying for a passport as soon as possible. Processing times can take 4-6 weeks.
