Coursework Information: Student enroll in ED 395: Special Topics: Educating the Marginalized in The United Kingdom. This 3 credit course will include preparation prior to departure, class time during the tour, and follow up work completion. Each candidate will complete an ethnography relating to our journey. Catalog Description: This program provides an interdisciplinary examination of education for marginalized youth through the lens of ethnography. The human benefit, dependence, and effect on school policy, and the effect on the learner will be studied simultaneously with learning about the unique culture and history of The United Kingdom. Students will develop an understanding of the use of the anthropological study of ethnography and will learn to become aware of global issues relating to meeting the needs of marginalized youth. Curriculum will blend to use each area of inquiry to support and examine the others. Travel destinations will include several unique school sites, history, culture, and art exhibits, interaction with locals, as well as activities such as seeing the sights of The United Kingdom in excursions and having ample free time to explore on your own. Activities Include: -Round Trip Air from Chicago to London with a connection in Reykjavik, Iceland -School visits to include sites in both urban and rural areas of Scotland and England. -Sites to include, but not be limited to; Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, London, British Parliament, St. Paul’s Church, Piccadilly Circus, Hyde Park, Changing of the Guard, Oxford, Notting Hill and more.
