Program Description

U.S./MX Border Program

March 19-May 11
Thursdays 2-3:50 Regular Class

Student Requirements:
-Have a current U.S. passport by the time the semester begins and be legally able to cross the border
-Be physically capable of walking, including time in the desert sun
-Be ready for long days of intense learning and interaction
-Be emotionally mature
-Be mentally and psychologically prepared
-Be curious, open and capable of engaging in deep forms of regular reflection

Tentative Travel Itinerary:
1) Fly into Tucson, AZ and stay for 2 days: Learn about the big picture/history of the border, Desert walks, Visits and reflections upon the wall, Visit local border activists and organizations.
2) Drive to Sonora, Mexico and stay for 2 days: Visit/have lunch with Mexican families in Agua Prieta, Meet with Mexican activists and organizations who work with migrants, Speak with migrants; Sleep in a Borderlinks dormitory.
3) Back to Tucson for 1 day: Witness Operation Streamline proceedings
Visit detention centers, talk with Border Patrol agents.
