Coursework Information: Student enroll in GS333, Exploring Iceland: Art and Science, Spring 2018 4 credits & Global Studies GS334 BEG, Traveling Iceland: Art and Science, Summer 2018 aero credits. *Students must enroll in and satisfactorily complete both parts of the course to fulfill the B, E, and G tags. Catalog Description: This program provides an interdisciplinary examination of Iceland through the lenses of ecosystem services, geology, and photography. The human benefit, dependence, and effect on natural resources will be studied simultaneously with learning about the unique Icelandic culture and history and varied geology. Students will develop technical and expressive skills in photography as they build toward producing a large series of impactful, communicative images about these global and scientific issues. Curriculum will blend to use each area of inquiry to support and examine the others. Travel destinations will include several unique natural sites, history, culture, and art exhibits, interaction with locals, as well as activities such as glacier walks, hikes, horse riding, and boat excursions. Activities Include: (3 different locations) Reykjavik: Hafnarhus Art Museum, National Gallery of Iceland, National Museum of Iceland, Settlement Exhibit, Photography Museum, Volcano House Golden Circle: Thingvellir National Park, Strokkur and Geysir Geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall, Laugarvatn village South Coast: geothermal greenhouse, green energy power plant, Thorsmork glacier valley (volcanic area), Thorvaldseyri farm, Skógarfoss Folk Museum, Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss waterfalls, Reynisfjara (black sand beach), Dyrholaey, geothermal springs, Alftanes Peninsula, Hafnarfjörður, Lake Kleifarvatn
