Come explore Cambodian culture through a close-up and hands-on study abroad experience! This program is open to everyone and all majors! Tentative Dates of Travel: December 29, 2018-January 19, 2019 Course Description: Student enroll in NRS270 for fall 2018. Travel Winter 2018 and enroll in NRS271 2G for spring 2019. NRS 270 will provide a trans-cultural experience through pre-immersion classroom instruction and an immersion field experience. Students will study Cambodian history, economics, governance structures, political and environmental influences, cultural beliefs and practices and their impact on health. Students will assist in providing care to Cambodian children, adolescents, and adults at various urban and rural sites across the country. Sites include, but are not limited to orphanages and schools. During the immersion field experience, students will focus on health and well-being within cultural and economic context and the impact of health disparities and limited resources on human health and well-being Travel Itinerary: - Well child assessments, educational sessions, at select urban and rural sites. - Cultural experiences will include travel to Angkor Wat, various markets, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Angkor National Museum, Cambodian parliament - Choice of visits to Wat Phnom, King’s Palace, National Museum, shopping, theater at the Cambodian Living Arts Performance, floating village, cooking classes, Bike ride through the Artesian Village and Water Falls. - Educational and health immersion through Angkor Hospital for Children, community capacity building.
